Can the Bloodhounds track in rain or snow?
Yes! A common misconception is that the rain or snow is detrimental to a scent search. In fact, the opposite is true. The rain and wet actually serve to settle the skin flakes (dander) and other scent particles down to the ground. If it is a torrential downpour, it will usually pound the scent into the ground (vegetation).
Damp air/humidity makes it easier for the bloodhounds system to process the scents, rather than their sensitive olfactory system sniffing in dry, hot dusty air. The moisture also allows for more bacterial action on the scattered skin cells, which means a stronger and longer lasting trail.
Snow is porous and damp, therefore very conducive to a bloodhound scent search. When it is cold, it is often of the utmost importance to find a pet before they succumb to the elements.
My pet has been missing for a long time. Will your dog find scent?
As a general rule, we can say yes. Scent trails will usually last up to 72 hours, depending on weather conditions and environmental factors. Our hounds have repeatedly picked up scent between 2-4 weeks old. Petsearcher’s highly trained Bloodhound trackers use proven procedures that will direct us to help locate your pet’s scent regardless of how long they have been missing. The thing to keep in mind is that even if your pet has been missing for weeks or months, they are leaving fresh scent in the area they are now in, so our trackers would be systematically looking for that scent with the best tracking breed in the world.
Why can’t I follow the tracker and bloodhound on search?
We do not permit you to follow the tracker and bloodhound for two reasons. One being, that the pet belongs to you, you can very easily have scent on your clothes, body and shoes which will disturb and confuse the bloodhound. Second, since our hounds are social loveable big guys, having people who they are not trained to work with can be distracting and disadvantageous to the search; they need to concentrate on their job.
Will the bloodhound follow the scent right to my lost pet?
In most cases yes it can happen, however the bloodhounds’ main goal is to track your pets’ scent and see in what direction he/she last went or where they may be sleeping and spending most of their time. Our goal is not to always to have our bloodhounds go right up to your pet instead they often help us determine a location to set traps or attempt to capture your pet with other equipment. Tracking also gives us a location for us to inform you, the owner, where your pet presently is.
Can you guarantee that you find my lost pet?
No. While we will do our absolute best to locate and rescue your lost pet, some elements are out of our control, such as severe weather conditions, predators, theft and traffic. These elements sometimes prevent us from giving an absolute guarantee, however we can guarantee that we will search for your lost pet like we would search for our own pets. Petsearchers has been proven over many years to be the best chance for a lost pet of being captured and brought home safely.
